Help Stop the Proposal to Kill Local Redevelopment - Protect Jobs and Our Local Economy.
As part of its 2011-12 budget proposal, the Administration has proposed permanently shutting down local redevelopment agencies in California. A broad coalition of local governments, business and labor, environmental leaders, affordable housing advocates and community groups all oppose the proposal to kill redevelopment.
This Proposal:
- Will kill hundreds of thousands of jobs, tens of billions of dollars in local economic development projects, and billions in tax revenues to state and local governments.
- Represents the same old State budget tactic of raiding local government funds that voters have repeatedly voted to prevent.
- Over 61% of voters passed Prop. 22 this past November to stop State raids of redevelopment funds.
- Will not provide any State budget relief after redevelopment agency bond and other contractual obligations are repaid.
-
Violates numerous state and federal constitutional provisions.

Redevelopment in Upland has been a valuable tool for supporting residents and businesses in the community. It has helped create new opportunities for economic growth; thousands of local jobs; much-needed public safety facilities; more than 2,000 quality housing units; has contributed millions of dollars to local schools; and contributed to the quality of life that we all enjoy through the building of many public amenities including our libraries, cultural center and more.
Now is the time to join others who support keeping LOCAL FUNDS LOCAL and to communicate to our legislators that redevelopment is a vital tool for Upland.
Please utilize the sample letters below to voice your opposition to the Administration's Proposal. Time is running out...so do it today!
